``We simply believe that in the next five to 10 years soccer will be one of the major four sports in the US,'' Danny Bahar, Red Bull's head of corporate projects, said in an interview at the International Football Arena conference in Zurich.
Red Bull acquired Major League Soccer franchise, the New York MetroStars from Anschutz Entertainment Group earlier this year and renamed the team the New York Red Bulls.
Bahar said the move was a strategic investment, made early, “before the US starts building soccer-specific stadiums and attracts the likes of Beckham, Figo and Ronaldo.''
The presence of major European stars such as David Beckham, who has said he would be interested in playing in the US, would boost spectator numbers in the US.
