International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge urged the organisers of the 2008 Beijing Olympics not to lose focus ahead of the 2008 Olympics and received reassurances from Prime Minister Wen Jiabao of the Chinese government's support for the Games.

Rogge's visit to Beijing coincided with an inspection visit by the International Olympic Committee's co-ordination commission, which monitors host city preparations. The commission declared itself happy that assurances made during the bidding process for the Games were taking shape and organisers were beginning to integrate operations in order to deliver a successful Games.

Rogge said of his meeting with Prime Minister Wen, “we discussed a wide range of Games-related topics and talked about sport in general. I was particularly heartened by the support and the commitment of the Chinese government for the 2008 Games, which I expect to be of the highest quality thanks to this support and to the dedication of the leadership...and the enthusiasm of the Chinese people."

Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the co-ordination commission said, “it is reassuring that each time we return to Beijing, the 2008 project continues to advance at the right pace.”
