UCI ANTI-DOPING CHIEF QUITS

The head of the International Cycling Union’s anti-doping team has quit after five years.

The UCI confirmed Christian Varin, a Swiss lawyer, had stepped down as anti-doping services manager to ‘explore new professional horizons’.

The UCI have denied his departure has been prompted by the recent doping scandals in the sport.

He has been replaced by Anne Gripper, former director of operations for the Australian anti-doping agency.

A UCI statement said: “The UCI wishes to thank Christian for working so conscientiously during these years to create an efficient and strong anti-doping unit.”
