WTA PRESIDENT SERVES UP TOP AWARD

Stacey Allaster, president of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, has been become the first woman to scoop a top sports business award in Canada.

She has been named Canada’s 2006 ‘Executive of the Year’ by Sports Media Canada – the Canadian division AIPS, the International Sports Press Association.

Allaster was named recipient for her work introducing new innovations and developments to enhance the Tour.

Said Larry Scott, CEO of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour: “Stacey is one of the best business people that the sport of professional tennis has ever seen. Her track record at Tennis Canada is one of success after success, whether on the sponsorship, TV or marketing fronts. Since joining the Tour, her laser focus on the fan experience and taking women's tennis to the next level of entertainment has enabled the sport to progress further and faster in the past few months than anyone could have imagined.”

Previous recipients of the Sports Executive of the Year Award include John Furlong and Jack Poole, the team responsible for securing Vancouver as the 2010 Winter Olympics host city, and Darryl Sutter of the Calgary Flames.

Allaster will be presented with the Executive of the Year Award at Sport Media Canada's annual Achievement Awards luncheon at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto later today.
