FIFA TO FACE POWER CHALLENGE?

Officials from the six soccer confederations belonging to world governing body FIFA are set to meet in the coming weeks to discuss a change in the way the game is managed, claim reports.

News wire services, citing an anonymous source, claimed the confederations want a greater say in the way the game is run, and a dilution of FIFA’s powers.

FIFA has dismissed any threat to its governance of the global game.
According to the reports, officials will meet prior to the FIFA Executive Committee meeting in December to finalise a list of proposals to put before FIFA chiefs.

The move has, the allegations claim, been prompted by the recent head-to-head battle between FIFA and UEFA over the way the sport will be governed within the European Union.

The EU plans to impose new regulations on the game, including salary caps, opposed by FIFA – and the International Olympic Committee – which is keen to keep complete control over the rules and regulations of the sport.
