During the visits the possibility of forming a partnership to run sports management courses as part of FIFA’s “Win in Africa with Africa” initiative was discussed. A first partnership agreement in this connection was signed between the CIES and Dakar’s Cheikh Anta Diop University in Senegal on 25 April 2006.
One of the main goals of these partnerships is the training of future sports managers in Africa, by providing students with a solid grounding in areas as diverse as communications, law, finance, management, the organisation of sporting events and marketing. The fact that both Dakar’s Cheikh Anta Diop University and UNISA specialise in long-distance learning will allow students from countries all over the African continent to benefit from these agreements.
It is hoped that the two South African universities will be in the position to offer these courses for the first time during the 2007-2008 academic year.
