Sochi 2014 says its bid has three key strengths: it is a technically outstanding Bid with brand new facilities built for the future; it will offer a long lasting legacy for the Sochi region, Russia and the Olympic Movement and Sochi offers the Olympic movement unique environmental setting and experience for the 2014 Games.
The Sochi bid has strong government backing and Russia's deputy foreign minister declared that the campaign to bring the 2014 Winter Olympics to Sochi is a foreign policy priority.
At the press conference in Russia, Bid leaders were joined by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government and head of the Government Committee for Sochi 2014 Alexander Zhukov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, Sports Minister Vyacheslav Fetisov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee Leonid Tyagachev, President of the Interros Holding Company Vladimir Potanin, the reigning Olympic men’s figure skating champion Evgeni Plushenko, other sports federation officials, celebrity athletes, and civic and business leaders supporting the Bid.
