NOW TV TO BID FOR ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE RIGHTS

The English Premier League is set for competition for its TV rights in Hong Kong when the auction process begins in December this year.

Now TV, the second-largest provider of pay TV in Hong Kong, will reportedly bid for the rights to screen English Premier League football matches in Hong Kong for the three seasons from 2007-08. According to reports Now TV is likely to bid in partnership with ESPN Star Sports.

It will be competing against Hong Kong-listed Television Broadcasts Ltd and the incumbent rights holder i-Cable Communications Ltd. i-Cable Communications’ has held the local rights to the screening of the EPL since 2001. Its present contract is for three years and expires in May next year.
