Extreme set up a mobile content division, Extreme To Go, earlier this year in response to demand for its action sports programming on mobile phones, handheld devices and for Podcasts. Headed up by Matt Goff, the new unit aims to give viewers increasing flexibility to access Extreme Sports content, ranging from streamed versions of the channel to downloadable clips, and bespoke mobisodes, WAP content and footage for preloading onto phone and wireless handsets, on the move.
Extreme To Go has already boosted the channel’s local mobile distribution by securing its first mobile TV service in the UK. Following a deal with BSkyB, Extreme is now part of Sky Mobile TV’s ‘News, Sports and Factual’ pack of channels, which is available to Vodafone’s 3G mobile users in the UK. The UK’s largest mobile operator has a total of 16.3 million customers, of which over 1 million are able to subscribe to the Sky Mobile TV service.
Extreme has also extended its growing international mobile content service by signing a new deal to bring its action sports content to 3G phone users in Portugal.
