FOX SPORTS OPPOSES ALL BLACK PULL OUT

Australian Pay-TV broadcaster Fox Sports is opposed to the All Blacks missing next year's rugby union Super 14 competition, fearing a negative impact on ratings.

News Limited, which holds the TV rights for the series, has invited Fox Sports as well as South African pay-TV broadcaster Super Sport and New Zealand’s SkyTV to submit their views on the New Zealand Rugby Union's plans to withdraw the All Blacks from next season’s competition. All three companies acquired broadcast packages from News Limited, which itself paid US$323 million in 2004 to buy the five-year rights for Super 14 and Tri Nations.

If the broadcasters object, News may have to take action to push the NZRU into a compromise agreement or take legal action to seek compensation. New Zealand's SkyTV said it supports the NZRU's plans.
