Any deal is thought likely to focus on distribution of News Corp content, such as Fox Television, movies and European football, on Telecom Italia's broadband services in Italy, France and Germany. Sky Italia this week acquired the TV rights for Italy’s Serie B including the matches of relegated champions Juventus.
A deal between News Corp’s pay-TV broadcaster Sky Italia and Telecom Italia on content could be strong competition for Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset.
Italian media reports also say that News could buy into Telecom Italia or Olimpia, the holding company that controls Telecom Italia with an 18-per-cent-stake.
