ASTON VILLA BACKS BARCLAYS SPACE FOR SPORT

Aston Villa welcomed the announcement of a £600,000 grant from Barclays and the Football Foundation for a new sports facility in Aston, Birmingham.

Thanks to the unique funding package, part of the £30million Barclays Spaces for Sports initiative to create sustainable sports facilities across the UK, the site will benefit from a new full size, floodlit astroturf pitch.

In addition to the £600,000 grant, the site at Aston Hall will also receive kit and equipment worth £5,000 and a £45,000 development fund from Barclays to ensure its sustainability. It is the first stage in a £10.5million re-development of Aston Park, with further funding being provided from a variety of sources.

The facilities at the site, which is immediately adjacent to Villa Park, will provide much needed sports facilities to local residents with activities such as football and hockey available. Furthermore, the new facilities will enable Aston Villa FC to extend their sporting provision in the area.
