FIGC THREATENS JUVE OVER APPEAL

Tagged in , &

Italian soccer governing body the FIGC has warned Juventus it faces stiff sanctions if it pushes ahead with its plans to appeal against its punishment for match-fixing through the civil courts.

After losing its latest appeal last week, Juventus, who were demoted to Serie B, deducted points, fined and stripped of their recent titles, said they would appeal through the civil court process in Lazio.

But the FIGC say is will ‘impose sanctions’ if the appeal goes ahead. Should Juve take the step it will go against FIFA regulations and possibly lead to Italy being suspended from the qualifying campaign for Euro 2008.

FIFA says it will also take steps against other Italian clubs if Juve continue.

Italy are the current world champions.
