TAGLIABUE: I'M GOING TO DISAPPEAR

Exiting NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue says he is ‘glad it’s over’ as he prepares to bow out of one of world sport’s most powerful positions.

Tagliabue steps down at the end of this month to be replaced, on September 1, by Roger Goodell.

Said Tagliabue: “I'm glad it's over, and it's the right time for it to be over.

“I'm looking to move on to new challenges. I think my main role is to disappear.

“I think, generally, that the best way to run an organisation is for the person who's running it to be in charge and for the people who had responsibility for running it previously to disappear for the most part.

“I've got tremendous memories. I learned a tremendous amount about a lot of things from NFL people going back to 1969.”
