The club, which now plays in National League One - below the elite Super League - will be wound up at extraordinary general meeting if they do not find the necessary cash to stay afloat.
Club directors remain optimistic of salvation but say they need a crowd of at least 5,000 for next month's home game against Whitehaven to survive.
Halifax are one of the game's giants and were Challenge Cup winners in 1987.
"There remain opportunities to rectify the club's cash shortfall," Halifax RLFC company secretary Michael Steele told the BBC.
"A gate of five to six thousand people would generate sufficient cash to ensure the club's survival."
