RYDER CUP BOOST FOR IRISH FOOD SECTOR

Tagged in , &

The Irish food board, Bord Bia, expects its sponsorship of next month’s Ryder Cup to deliver a €5 million boost for the Irish food and drinks industry.

The Irish Examiner reports that a linked-on packed meat promotion in Britain and Ireland has already led to a €3m sales increase, while supplies to corporate and general catering by 40 companies at the Ryder Cup at the K Club in Co Kildare will be worth a further €2m.

Some 300 international food and drink buyers with a combined purchasing power of €64 billion will be guests of Bord Bia and the Irish food and drinks industry at the golfing spectacle.

Bord Bia said yesterday these guests would be targeted to generate substantial new business for Irish exporters in the short to medium term.

It plans to leverage its sponsorship of the Ryder Cup to promote the Ireland — The Food Island brand to the event’s estimated viewing audience of one billion people, across 150 countries, in support of Ireland’s €7.5bn food, drink and horticultural exports.
