BARCELONA EXPECTS BIG IMPACT FROM PRE-SEASON TOUR

Spanish Primera Liga club Barcelona expects its pre-season tour of USA to generate four times more revenue than its tour there in 2003.

The tour which runs until August 12 is expected to generate at least B4 million. The club’s matches have sold out with a crowd of 92,650 watching them play against Chivas of Mexico in Los Angeles, the largest ever attendance for a soccer game in USA involving club teams.

The club now has a higher profile in the US. During the 2003 tour, Barcelona’s matches drew an average of 30,000 spectators, with more interest being generated by other touring teams Juventus of Italy and England’s Manchester United.
