NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT PAYS COMPENSATION

The New Zealand government said it will pay its national cricket body NZ$406,000 in compensation for the cancellation of last year's tour by Zimbabwe.

The tour was abandoned when the government refused visas to Zimbabwean players in protest over human rights breaches by the Zimbabwe government of Robert Mugabe.

The government said it decided the tour was not appropriate and that it was only fair that it compensate New Zealand Cricket.
