NO FA CUP FINAL AT WEMBLEY UNTIL 2008

The English FA Cup final is unlikely to be played at the new Wembley stadium until at least 2008 after the Multiplex construction company said it would not be ready to host a major event until June 2007.

Multiplex said it had conducted an analysis of the programme to complete the job and did not expect the stadium to be ready in time for the Cup final. The £750 million project to rebuild the stadium has hit numerous delays and costs have soared. The stadium had been due to stage the 2006 FA Cup final but it was moved to Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. Multipex then said the stadium was likely to be completed by September 2006.

The English FA has already rescheduled England's home 2008 European Championship qualifiers in September for alternative venues.
