The US Tennis Association said the winners of this year’s men’s and women’s singles championships at the US Open will win at least $1.2 million, up 6.7 per cent from the record payout in 2005.
Total prize money for the tournament will be $18.5 million. But this could rise to $21.1 million as the singles champions will have the potential to earn a bonus of up to $1 million based on their results in the US Open Series, the 10 ATP and WTA Tour events that lead in to the year’s final grand slam tournament.
The US, French and Australian Opens offer equal prize money in both the men's and women's singles.
