US CLAMPS DOWN ON SPORTS BETTING

Online gaming company BETonSPORTS faces a civil case in the US over its operations taking bets on sports events.

The civil complaint seeks to obtain an order requiring BETonSPORTS to stop taking sports bets from the country and to return money held in betting accounts to account holders in the United States.

The US Department of Justice has also instructed four telephone companies to stop providing services to the company. The US authorities detained the company’s chief executive David Carruthers as he changed planes in Dallas.

The US House of Representatives recently approved a bill to crack down on internet gambling by banning banks and credit card companies from processing the payments. The bill has yet to be approved by the Senate.
