LENNART JOHANSSON TO STAND AT 2007 UEFA PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Uefa President, Lennart Johansson, confirmed that he intends to seek a further, and final, term of office as Uefa President.

He informed the Uefa Executive Committee of his decision to stand for a further four-year term at the forthcoming presidential election, which is due to take place at the Uefa Congress in Germany in January 2007. Johansson has been President of Uefa since 1990. He said that his sense of a shared vision of the future for Uefa and European football and the requests he has received to remain as President convinced him to seek a further term of office.

Among other decisions taken at its the Executive Committee meeting, Uefa decided to maintain the deadline of July 25 for the Italian Football Association to submit the list of clubs eligible for participation in European club competitions. The decision means that the Italian FA must have finally decided on the fate of the four Italian clubs facing relegation on match-fixing charges by the July 25 deadline.

Uefa also decided to award the hosting of the Uefa European Women’s Football Championship 2009 to Finland and approved the Uefa administration operational budget of 2006/07.
