Some critics have said the programme will increase player workload and could trigger burnout or even a strike. Speaking at the ICC’s annual Business Forum, Speed said that far from being concerned about the excessive volume of cricket being played by its member boards the ICC believes many of them should be looking for opportunities to programme more cricket. He said, of the 60 annual touring programmes under the FTP, not one side is scheduled to exceed both the test and ODI figures in any 12-month period.
Speed said the responsibility for managing player workloads lay in the hands of the ICC’s member boards.
