NATIONAL RUGBY LEAGUE CHANGES RESTARTS FOR ADVERTISERS

Tagged in , &

Australia’s National Rugby League will change its rules at the request of its broadcast partners to allow for a delay at restarts, so that broadcasters can run an extra advertising spot.

As part of the league’s new broadcast deal with commercial network Nine and pay-operator Foxtel an agreement has been reached allowing a guaranteed break of at least 30 seconds between any try conversion attempt and the re-start of play so that the broadcasters can fit in an advertisment.

It is understood that the broadcasters also wanted to introduce a green-light system under which the referee would know when broadcasters wanted the game to restart, but the league said that restarts would remain controlled entirely by the referee.
