He told a parliamentary hearing that the government is “evaluating ... a return to collective negotiating of rights” and that it would present “a measure that will rewrite the rules on the acquisition of TV rights for football” before the end of the month.
The move is part of a wider package of reforms being proposed by Romano Prodi’s government to alter media legislation passed by Italy’s former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
The government will also seek to change limits on competition in the media sector, to change the proposed switchover from analogue to digital and to alter plans for the structure and organisation of state broadcaster Rai.
