HOK SPORT'S KEAS TO LEAD KEY INTERNATIONAL SPORTS EVENT MANAGEMENT OVERLAY SESSION

Strategies for designing and delivering a seamless and effective venue overlay will come under the spotlight at the inaugural International Sports Event Management Conference at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London, on November 22 and 23.

Creating venue and event overlay has become a crucial factor in the management of all major events. It is the term for the design and provision of the facilities in and around a venue which enable it to meet the specific operational needs of a particular event.

Jeff Keas, Associate Principal at HOK Sport and a specialist in facility and overlay design, will draw on his experience of projects ranging from the 1994 FIFA World Cup to the Atlanta, Sydney and Salt Lake City Olympic Games, to lead a session which underscores the increasing importance of efficient and cost effective event overlay in the major events sectors.

“A major event requires an integrated process between architects, overlay designers and event management. It must be a joint effort by all parties to ensure total success,” explained Keas.

“It is imperative that the architect understands both the legacy opportunities and event requirement to ensure the facility will be sustainable after the event and will be able to adapt to the operational needs during the event. That means that event managers must be involved early in the process,” he said.

Jeff Keas is one of a host of highly experienced speakers who will share their knowledge with an audience representing the entire cross-section of stakeholders of major events, ranging from civic authorities to specialist agencies.
