ITALIAN MATCH-FIX PANEL CONVENE TODAY

A panel of judges will meet today to begin deliberations into the match-fixing charges which have shocked Italian soccer to its core.

The panel will convene at Rome’s Olympic Stadium to consider the sporting fraud charges relating to Serie A clubs Juventus, AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina – as well as 26 individuals.
The charges were brought after a probe conducted on behalf of the FIGC – Italy’s soccer federation, which itself was caught up in the investigation and which saw two of its most senior figures resign when the news first broke.
The panel is likely to make its ruling on World Cup final day – July 9.
