NFL STANDS FIRM ON $20m LEGAL CLAIM

Tagged in &

The NFL says it will strongly fight a legal battle with seven current and former players who are suing the league and its union for $20m.

The seven say they are looking to recover the money lost in an alleged fraud scheme.

They claim the NFL Players’ Association endorsed the services of an investment firm despite hedge fund manager Kirk Wright and his partner Nelson Bond having ‘active state and federal tax liens’ against them.

The case has been filed in the US District Court.
Wright, who ran International Management Associates, was arrested in May on federal fraud charges and is also facing a lawsuit from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
But an NFL spokesman said it would fight the claims.

They said: “Along with our attorneys we will review the matter thoroughly and will look forward to responding as we have been directed.”
An NFLPA spokesman said they would ‘address’ the issues once in possession of all the facts.
The case has been brought by Blaine Bishop, Steve Atwater, Ray Crockett, Al Smith, Marco Coleman, Carlos Emmons and Clyde Simmons.
