Inter finished third in the league – behind the two sides who are both facing charges relating to match-fixing allegations.
Inter chief Massimo Moratti was reported as saying in Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport: “If Juventus and Milan are hit by a punitive sentence, it seems to me normal that first place should be re-assigned to Inter.
“In the past, when a club was punished for illegal behaviour, the team that finished just behind them was awarded their place in the standings.”
Alongside Juve and Milan facing charges are Fiorentina and Lazio.
The four clubs join 26 individuals who will argue their case in Rome as of June 29.
The owner of Italian soccer club Inter Milan is calling for his club to be crowned champions of Serie A if both Juventus and AC Milan are found guilty in the on-going probe into claims of ‘sporting fraud’.
