The IOC Executive Board begins its three-day meeting in Lausanne today, and will hear a full report on the Turin 2006 Games from the Co-ordination Commission involved in the event.
But it will be tomorrow’s announcement by IOC president Jacques Rogge which is likely to make the biggest headlines as he makes an announcement at 1pm local time to confirm the cities involved.
The seven candidates currently declared are likely to be trimmed down to just four – or possibly even three.
The bidding cities are: Salzburg, Austria; Sochi, Russia; PyeongChang, South Korea; Jaca, Spain; Sofia, Bulgaria; Almaty, Kazakhstan; and Borjomi, Georgia.
The eventual winner will be named next year. Salzburg are seen as early favourites.
