BEIJING CORRUPTION PROBE 'NOT GAMES RELATED'

Tagged in &

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games chiefs have confirmed the dismissal of a senior city figure on alleged corruption charges are not related to the staging of the event.

The city’s vice mayor Liu Zhihua left his post, overseeing a government office in charge of monitoring Olympic construction plans, on Sunday.

Reports in the Asian media say a probe into his 'lifestyle' has begun.

But the IOC say his downfall is not connected to the Games.

An IOC spokesman is reported to have said: “From information we have received from Beijing is that the charges are not related to the 2008 Games.”
