A group representing the country’s top clubs, Premier Rugby, is calling on the sport’s governing body, the English Rugby Football Union (RFU), to increase funding to clubs who find themselves deprived of their top players when selected for the national team.
Proposals were handed to the RFU this week.
Francis Baron, RFU chief executive, is quoted on the BBC as saying: “There is a way forward on this and I am optimistic.
“Let's get it costed and work out how many additional players the clubs might need and we will accept the responsibility of meeting those additional costs.”
