BBC SERVES UP LIVE ONLINE WIMBLEDON

British broadcaster the BBC has confirmed it will be showing live coverage of tennis Grand Slam Wimbledon on its website this summer for the first time ever.

The broadband video will be made available to all UK web users and will mirror terrestrial and interactive coverage the BBC will show on conventional TV.

A brief three-minute highlights package of each day’s play will be accessible to broadband users globally.

The BBC has not been slow to utilise its rights package via its online offering – and carried extensive live coverage of the Winter Olympic Games earlier this year.
Said Barbara Slater, BBC head of general sports: "This is an exciting opportunity and will ensure Wimbledon reaches a far wider audience than before.
"The live streaming coverage will make one of the biggest sporting events in the world available to broadband users in the UK."
