BALLPARK CASH PLEDGE WITHDRAWN

A $200m pledge towards building a new home for the Florida Marlins in San Antonio has been withdrawn.

The money had been put forward as part of the city’s bid to lure the Miami franchise to Texas, but was pulled after league chiefs were unable to complete the move in time to meet San Antonio’s May 15 deadline.
MLB president Bob DuPuy said: “We are not in a position to approve the relocation of the Marlins to San Antonio right now.
“We are working closely with the Marlins to secure a stadium in Florida and are hopeful this process will be coming to a successful conclusion promptly."
