G14 AWAIT COURT DECISION IN FIFA FIGHT

The G14 pressure group of Europe’s biggest soccer clubs will today look to score a major victory over the sport’s world governing body as the result of a landmark legal case is due to be delivered.

A Belgian court is expected to deliver its verdict in the case of Charleroi, which is seeking compensation, backed by the G14, from FIFA for an injury sustained to one of their players while on international duty.

They are claiming compensation after Moroccan Abdelmajid Oulmers suffered a knock which kept him out for eight months at the end of 2004 while playing in a friendly against Burkino Faso. They claim his loss damaged their chances of domestic success.

Reports suggest the court could refer the case to the European Court of Justice.
