STADIUM SIGNS FIVE-YEAR SPEEDWAY EXTENSION

Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium has signed a new five-year contract with BSI, rights holders of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series, to host the British GP.

The venue in Wales will host the race – widely recognised as the series’ flagship event and expected to attract a 40,000 crowd when the 2006 event is staged next month - until 2011.

Paul Bellamy, MD of speedway for BSI, said: “Despite considering other alternative venues, we felt the Millennium Stadium offered us the complete package in terms of experience and facilities to continue to host the FIM British Speedway Grand Prix at its spiritual home.

“This event continues to set the standard for all our other GPs in the world championship and we are delighted to have secured this contract to allow us to continue our successful relationship with the Stadium until 2011.”
