The investigation centres around newspaper claims a senior official of Energie Baden-WC
German law forbids politicians or government employees accepting such gifts.
It is believed 15 cases are being investigated.
World Cup organising committee vice-president Wolfgang Niersbach dismissed the claims, however. He told a German newspaper: “It is absurd anyone who invites guests to World Cup matches or who receives an invitation is accused of having dishonest intentions.”
A probe has been launched into claims one of the FIFA World Cup’s official suppliers for this summer’s tournament handed match tickets to German politicians and government officials.
