BBC TO SCRAP GRANDSTAND

Tagged in &

UK broadcaster the BBC has confirmed it is to scrap its traditional Saturday sports show Grandstand two years short of its 50th birthday.

Grandstand has dominated Saturday early afternoon TV since it first launched 48 years ago, showcasing a range of sports.

However, as the BBC has lost the rights to more and more events, its relevance and the quality of the sports it covers has diminished.

BBC chiefs say sport will still figure in its Saturday scheduling, delivered as separate programmes, but that Grandstand will be phased out.
