Major League Baseball's New York Yankees have become the first baseball team valued at more than $1billion in the annual estimates made by Forbes magazine.
The Yankees' value increased eight per cent to $1.026billion.
The Boston Red Sox boasted the second-highest value at $617million.
Tampa Bay was last among the 30 teams at $209 million.
Forbes valued three NFL teams last September at $1billion or higher: the Washington Redskins ($1.26billion), Dallas Cowboys ($1.06billion) and New England Patriots ($1.04billion).
