C&G PULL PLUG ON CRICKET DEAL

Financial firm Cheltenham & Gloucester will not renew its sponsorship of English county cricket’s one-day cup competition after this season, it has been confirmed.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said C&G has decided to end its five-year association with the 50-overs domestic tournament as of this year’s final at Lord’s on August 26 to ‘look at other avenues more in-line with current marketing objectives’.
Ian Whittaker, C&G’s head of marketing, said: “We’ve had a fantastic relationship with the ECB over the years and the partnership has been a great success. We hope the last C&G Trophy, which takes place in 2006, will be one to remember and we wish the ECB and any future partner all the best.”
ECB chairman David Morgan said: “It is disappointing to lose a sponsor of the calibre of C&G as we have enjoyed a most successful partnership.
“We thank them for all their support during the last five years and are grateful for their input into a competition which is the breeding ground of World Cup cricketers of the future.”
