The US has long made positive noises about the 2016 Games and although no city has declared openly it will be making a bid, a number are believed to be interested.
Among them New York, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia.
A delegation formed of USOC chairman Peter Ueberroth, chief exec Jim Scherr and international vice president Bob Ctvrtlik – hired recently to promote USOC overseas with a view to a 2016 bid – will visit all cities expressing an interest.
The last time the summer Games were held on US soil were in 1996 when Atlanta played host.
USOC has yet to confirm it will make a bid for the 2016 Games.
The US Olympic Committee has taken a giant stride towards preparing for a bid for the 2016 Olympic Games after confirming it will stage meetings in the coming weeks with a host of interested cities.
