VIRGIN SPORTS EYEING PREMIER LEAGUE

The takeover of Virgin Mobile by cable giant NTL could net the Premier League a 30 per cent hike in broadcast income, with the new entity set to bid for the next round of rights.

The league is putting together the tender process for the rights from 2007/08 to 2009/10, which could yield up to £2billion in total according to The Guardian newspaper.

The packages of rights on offer are platform neutral, allowing internet, satellite, cable and mobile phone broadcasters to bid for the same rights.

The new Virgin-NTL group, to be branded as Virgin Sports, will look to cash in on its ability to offer all four of the above platforms.
