Sebastian Coe hit back in the wake of claims made in newspapers over the weekend by David Higgins, chief of the Olympic Delivery Authority.
He claimed a boom in local housing as a result of staging the Games could send the budget rocketing by as much as £2bn.
But Lord Coe hit back, saying: “What David Higgins was talking about was non-Olympics costs.
“But he did not say there was a £2bn overrun. This is not what he said and he did not mention a figure.”
