Franz Beckenbauer is ‘not ready’ to become UEFA president according to Lennart Johansson.
Johansson plans to step down from the role in 2007 with Beckenbauer, the driving force behind this summer’s Germany 2006 FIFA World Cup, among the favourite candidates to replace him.
But speaking to the German media, Johansson said: “I do not know whether he is really ready to become UEFA president. At the moment it does not look like he is.
“He is a friend of mine and he is very busy with the World Cup.”
