NO RUSH FOR NEXT NFL CHIEF

The next commissioner of the NFL is no closer to being selected after Paul Tagliabue postponed the appointment of a committee to seek his successor.

At the league’s annual meeting in Florida, Tagliabue – who is due to stand down in July – was supported by team bosses over the decision to stall on who should take his place.

And the outcome could be that Tagliabue stays on for a little longer yet.
Houston's Bob McNair explained: “We don't want to get ahead of ourselves and interview candidates before we define the position. It's difficult, it takes a lot of thought and effort to think about where you want to be in the future as a league.”
Asked if he expected to remain in the post beyond July, Tagliabue quipped: ‘Ask me in September.’
