ASIAN TOUR SIGNS PHILIPPINES DEAL

Golf's Asian Tour has agreed a landmark five-year deal with the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) in a bid to make the Philippine Open one of the region's flagship events.

NGAP will entrust all commercial and media rights of the Philippine Open, Asia's oldest national Championship, to the Asian Tour until 2010.

Louis Martin, chief executive of the Asian Tour, said that with support from the corporate sector in the Philippines it would be realistic to raise prize money to more than $1million in the coming years, and telecast the event live across Asia.

This year's Philippine Open, which will celebrate its 90th edition, will be played from May 25-28 with a prize fund of $200,000. The venue will be named at a later date.
