WORLD CUP MAKES A SPLASH WITH BROADCASTERS

The FINA World Cup Swimming Series has achieved a high in television exposure, reaching more than 100 countries across five continents.

“Interest for the Swimming World Cup has never been greater”, says Anders BjC6rkman, director of television properties at IEC in Sports, which has distributed the majority of the World Cup events since 1994.

“It has never been easy to package this series of events, as there are different rights owners at each venue and therefore different Host Broadcasting arrangements,” added BjC6rkman.

“However, this season we got involved with all of the events at an early stage enabling us to create an attractive proposition to broadcasters around the world.”

The 2005/06 season comprised eight World Cup events in the USA, Russia, Sweden, Australia, South Africa, Germany and Korea with the final taking place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

All events were aired live on television in major markets like Russia, Brazil, Italy, France and Sweden.

IEC ensured the quick turnaround of tape delayed programming and highlights into Australia, Asia, Middle East and Africa.

More than 20 TV stations were involved in the eight World Cup broadcasts.

“Where needed, IEC also offered the local organisers our production services. This season, we produced one of the competition days at the meet in Berlin and brought in the Host Broadcaster for the meet in Korea,” explained BjC6rkman.
