BOA UNVEILS BUSINESS-GOVERNING BODY LINK

The British Olympic Association (BOA) will partner some of the country's leading blue-chip companies with governing bodies to the 35 Olympic sports.

The 'BOA Business Partnership' will see companies provide pro bono professional services, advice and support to improve the delivery of governing body services to their athletes.

The first partnership is being signed between the British Biathlon Union (BBU) and Skandia UK Group.

The financial services group joins the Army in providing support for the BBU.

The new four-year deal is designed to enable the BBU to engage high quality support and coaching staff for the athletes and allow the introduction of development programmes for the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

BOA chairman, Colin Moynihan, said: "Aligning the professional expertise within leading British companies and making them available to governing bodies will provide a support network most sports have never previously received.”

BBU chairman, David Cranston CBE, said: “To have the support of such a successful company behind us, with the opportunity to access some of their excellent services will mean we as a governing body can develop, and assist our athletes in ways we have been unable to before now.”

Initially, the scheme will focus on British companies but the BOA will says it will look at the most suitable partnership for each sport.

Governing Bodies are free to choose whether to take part, with some sports having strong existing partnerships with major companies.
