The decision has been welcomed by Chris Dehring, managing director & CEO of ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc.
“From the outset we made it clear to the Global Cricket Corporation (GCC) – the exclusive rights holders – that our strong preference was to have the matches broadcast on free-to-air television in the Caribbean. This development should ensure that will now happen.
"We were aware that there might have been a major North American bidder in the running for those rights but we are very pleased that the Global Cricket Corporation saw fit to award the rights to a Caribbean entity,” he said.
CMC’s deal will allow it to provide regional radio broadcasters with live, ball-by-ball coverage of 36 of the 51 tournament matches, including all involving the West Indies team, the semi-finals and final.
Additionally, the company will be responsible for distributing the regional television feed and will host a daily discussion programme with match highlights.
