But in keeping with past practice, he refused to make any comparison between these Winter Games and previous editions.
Rogge said he had sought opinion from a wide variety of sources. "I have asked the advice of all the stakeholders in the Olympic Movement. I spoke with the athletes at the Olympic Village. I spoke also with the NOCs [national Olympic committees] at the Olympic Village. I've been to all sports and venues. I've spoken to IF [international federation] presidents.
"During my visits to the IBC [International Broadcast Centre] and MPC [Main Press Centre] I spoke with the broadcasters and the media. At our marketing club I had many meetings with our sponsors; everyone that supports us."

Rogge also disputed observations that spirit and enthusiasm might have been lacking in Turin, as seen by wide swaths of empty seats at many events.
"That's not what I felt at the venues," said Rogge.
"You've heard the figures of the ticket sales. Definitely like in Athens, after three or four days venues were full and you had an enthusiastic crowd," he added.
